The Britannia public house is one of the oldest pubs in Margate.
It was originally built as a hunting lodge for Mr Cobb and his Family -- Mr
Cobb being the famous Cobbs brewery in Margate. There was a skeleton which
was found underneath the building. There were archaeological
excavations undertaken in the latter part of the 19th Century, which revealed
the remains of Roman, and Saxon settlements, and remains of people.
Shortly after entering the Brittannia, we set our equipment including the White Light livestream, rigged up the CCTV cameras in the basement, and turned the lights out ready for the start of our investigation.
We started with our usual Spiritual protection that we use on all our investigations, followed by a seance where we create energy for Spirit to come through. We then asked if there were any Spirit present, for them to show themselves or make a sign.
Jacquie had asked if the Spirit present could chink a glass, and with in a very short time, someone unseen obliged with a definate chink of a glass. We also heard the sound of whistling.
We then all heard the leather chair to my right creak as if someone was sitting down in it.
Minutes later, I saw a man sitting crossed legged in the same chair we heard creaking. Because the outline of this figure was so clear, I turned to it, hoping it was Adam, only to hear him answer from the other side of the room!
The figure also seemed to be a little bit tipsy but did not mean us any harm at all, he was just looking at us. This continued for a few minutes.
We started our walk around the venue, filming as we went. During our walk around the bar, some of the Team heard
the sound of a Child running around upstairs. We know for a fact there were no children in the building at the time,
and just the Manager of the pub upstairs. As we were walking behind the bar, I heard a hissing sound, this was also
heard by Jacquie. We heard this sound throughout the building including the basement during the course of the investigation.
Myself, Emma, Lynze and Jacquie decided to investigate the basement of the pub, leaving Adam upstairs to
monitor the CCTV camera on us downstairs. During this time we all felt something a bit odd downstairs and heard
various knocking noises and again heard hissing sounds coming from brick walls.
I decided to try and communicate using a laser thermometer. I kept it very still and asked the Spirit present to
take the temperature down --- which it did -- on command. It continued to do this for quite some time.
During the course of the evening we had heard whistling, hissing, a glass clinking, and I had seen what looked
like a man sitting in a chair!
The Brittannia pub has a far reaching history and we feel we had only touched the tip of the iceberg. Our time was
limited in this very atmospheric venue, but we cant wait to go back again soon.
