Crampton Tower and Museum, Broadstairs 3oth January 2008
The investigation - 8pm. Weather outside cold and dry
temperature -0/ - 1 degree centigrade.
Team members investigating -- Claire, Melanie, Emma,
Lynze, Ian, David and Adam.
Equipment used -- camcorders, digital cameras, digital
voice recorder, EMF meter, laser thermometer, motion
detector.
Thomas Russell Crampton was born in
Broadstairs Kent and was remembered as a designer of
locomotives and of railways, but he was also involved
with gas, water works and the submarine telegraph cable.
He was the first to succeed in laying an effective telegraph
cable under the English Channel.
The museum contains Crampton working drawings,
models, graphics, patents, awards and artifacts connected
to his life and works. The tower, and beehive were built
around 1847.
The Crampton Tower and Museum has never been
investigated before and we were very excited to be in such
a lovely setting.
The Tower comprises of 5 floors, but only three accessible
to the public. We were using the three floors.
We set the motion detector on the third floor, and Ian
took EMF readings and temperature on each floor.
Bottom floor reading - EMF 1.5 -- temp 8.6 degrees c
Middle floor reading - EMF 2 -- temp 9.3 degrees c
Upper floor reading - EMF 1.5 -- temp 6.8 degrees c
We set up our table and Myself (Claire), Melanie, Emma, Lynze and Ian did our spiritual
protection. David and Adam were on the camcorders. We then tried to get some energy
flowing round the table for spirit to use and commenced a seance.
During the seance we heard footsteps coming up the stairs. We then decided to
do some glass divination, which was very productive and Melanie felt the presence of
a man in a boiler suit who was standing next to myself (Claire). Also we felt the presence
of a Lady who we believe to have been Lady Crampton.
We introduced ourselves one by one and then the glass was going really fast around the
table. During the glass divination, I felt cold blasts of air on my hands and face as did
Melanie, Emma, and Lynze.
We asked the spirit present to do something to either David or Adam as they needed proof
that they were there. The instance we asked, Emma felt a cold blast on her face.
As we were calling out and asking questions to the Lady, we heard a groan which seemed
to come from downstairs. As I went to have a look downstairs, I saw something dark shoot
up the stairs which really shocked me.
Melanie took this picture just as this was happening. As you can see there is a light around my face but also on the top and front of the cabinet on the right hand side, there is a
strange purple light.
When we had finished with the glass, myself and Emma both realised that as we
walked past a glass cabinet, we had both been touched on the bottom!
Lynze was feeling really cold and Ian read the temperature and it had dropped by 3
degrees.
We decided to take a break then go to the museum building. At this point Adam had
bravely volunteered to sit in the tower on his own with a camcorder and a walkie talkie.
On later inspection of the camcorder recording, there are some strange knocking noises
that Adam said he did not hear at the time.
The museum is full of model trains on tracks, and in the middle is an old full size coach
that was used on journeys between here and Canterbury in times past. The temperature
was 1 degree centrigrade, and the EMF was variable.
As we entered the museum and turned the lights out, I felt extremely uncomfortable,
and as we stood at the back end looking towards the door, I felt something touch the
back of my head. Shortly after that, my camera ran out of battery power even though
I had put brand new batteries in for the investigation.
Emma and Lynze both felt something touch their hair. Lynze said it was like someone
stroking her hair.
Myself (Claire), Melanie, Emma and Lynze both felt uneasy going anywhere near the
coach. Emma noticed that a sign hanging above the coach was swinging. Melanie also caught the following light and mist on camera.
We stayed for around 20 minutes, calling out and trying to get a response by tapping and
whistling. Myself, Emma and Lynze witnessed a light at the far end of the room on a
picture. Melanie took this picture which is very interesting - its pretty hard to miss but see the strange pink light/tracers in the corner.
We made our way back to Adam in the tower and decided to take a
break. Adam had said that the motion detector had gone off twice in the tower, but then
realised that when the lights were switched on, it set the detector off.
After re-grouping, and having a short break, we decided to investigate the third
building, the beehive. Ian remained in the tower, in the dark, with a digital voice recorder
and a walkie talkie.
The beehive is a water reservoir, which is now empty. There was no EMF reading and
the temperature was reading 24.6 degrees centigrade which we thought was very strange
because it was obviously colder than that.
The sound reverberation is amazing in the beehive, it bounces off the walls, and you can
hear it bounce back from all angles.
We did some calling out but all agreed that it felt flat spiritually, so we stayed for
around 10 minutes and left to return to Ian at the tower.
On our return, Ian said that he had been calling out and had recorded it on the voice
recorder. On listening to the recording later, I heard Ian calling out and then footsteps.
We wanted to change from the middle floor of the tower to the top and started to do
some glass divination. We then decided to start a ouija board session (we would not
recommend using a ouija board unless you know how to open up and close properly
and safely).
During the session we communicated with a spirit called Willie who had apparantly
been murdered on the site prior to the tower being built. We were twice given the date
1737 as the date of death, and when asked what had happen, the word "fist"was spelt out. We were told through the board that the area had been farmland previous to the tower
being built.
During the session Lynze felt a spirit trying to channel through her, but managed to
push it away, leaving her a bit shaky.
Also just after the attempted channeling, a groan was heard by all the Team coming
from between Lynze and David who was standing behind filming.
Also Melanie and Emma said they felt something tightening round their necks.
After this happened, there seemed to be an unwanted spirit messing around, so we
closed the board down.
At this point we decided to take a break.
We all wanted to return to the Museum, but were quite uneasy about it as we felt that
there was quite a negative energy in there. Melanie said she felt like the spirit was
shifting around and was really difficult to locate.
On entering the Museum, it felt colder than when we were in before. Shortly after,
the battery in the camcorder went, it had just been changed.
We tried calling out to this elusive energy, but were not getting any responses.
After around 15 minutes, we decided to call it a day (or night!).
We had a fantastic evening at the Crampton Tower, Museum and Beehive and would
like to thank Peter Shaw for being so welcoming and letting us spend time in this
lovely historic Museum.
