The Westgate Pavilion
The Westgate Pavilion, Sea Road, Westgate, Kent 14th April 2009

The Investigation - 21.30 -- weather outside --
cool and dry 10 degrees centigrade. Shortly after
starting the investigation, there was lightning and
thunder which soon disappeared.

Team members investigating -- Claire, Melanie,
Emma, Lynze, Ian and Adam.

Equiptment used -- Camcorders, Digital Voice
recorders, digital cameras,
EMF meters, laser thermometers, motion detectors.

The Westgate Pavilion dates back to the turn of the 20th century. Originally it was a small bandstand which was surrounded by seating for up to 600 people. It was strangely taken down after only a few years and the existing pavilion built.

It was used as a walking wounded hospital in the second world war, and apart from that
has been a music venue, bingo hall, and now hosts many activities from line dancing to indoor bowls.  The new owner Kevin is lovingly restoring this wonderful building to its former glory and exposing the glasswork that has been covered for so many years.

After being welcomed with a cup of tea, Kevin took us on an initial walk-
around and explained the history of the building. During this walk-round, we did
a Risk assessment, temperature reading which was between 17 and 18 degrees throughout
the building.   The EMF was nil throughout the building. We then turned all the lights
out as we walked around.

I then set up the motion detectors in the hall where I felt there was a presence.
In the back area by the new toilets, I set up trigger obects of coins, and a cassette box.

Myself, Melanie, Emma and Lynze all felt strong Spirit presence as soon as we entered
the Pavilion.

Emma said she could see hospital beds all laid out -- a fact she did not know prior to the investigation.  Emma also said she thought no-one had died and that it was just walking wounded -- a fact later confirmed by Kevin.
She also picked up the connection between the pavilion and Mr Powell-cotton whose
Grandson had been involved with the Pavilion.  Shortly after this Emma thought Melanie
was standing next to her, proceeded to talk to her, only to realise that the figure had gone
and Melanie had been on the other side of the room!
This freaked Emma out somewhat -- and we hadn't even started yet! Apparantly this sort
of activity is quite common in the Pavilion.  Poor Emma!

We started the investigation with our Spiritual protection, then went on to a
seance.  Kevin had said that they called the female spirit Sophie. In my minds eye, I saw
Sophie with very expensive clothing on and a big hat. We started calling out to her, and the candles seemed to react to what we were asking by flickering.
On looking back on the video footage, when I was calling out, you can clearly hear a
woman moaning as I asked her to react to my voice.

We then had a walk round, taking some more pics.  You can clearly see orbs captured in
these pics.

I then thought we may get some kind of reaction from putting a single chair in the
middle of the dancefloor.  Paul who works at the Pavilion said he would sit in the chair.
I gave him the voice recorder to hold.  We called out asking any spirit present to go to
him.

We then decided to set up the ouija board on the stage.  Kevin sat in on this with myself
(Claire), Melanie, Emma, Lynze and Ian with Adam on the camcorder.
We got the spirit of a gentleman who said he had nothing to do with the Pavilion but
had lived and died in Westgate.  He died when he was 86 in 1948.
As you can see in these pictures Emma took, we again captured more orbs.

We then got another spirit through and we all felt that there was a lovely presence
about him. We now felt that we had one of the two airmen that walk around together.

Kevin had previously told us that he had seen the airmen together before.
We asked his name and beforehand Melanie had got the name Charles -- and when the
spelling started, it spelt out Charlie.  We then asked what his friends name was and Lynze
had the name Paul which was then spelt out on the board.  He then proceeded to tell us
that he had been a Captain and that he had passed over but chose to return to look
after his friend Paul who was confused as to what had happened to him. He gave his
age as 38, and his friend as 28.

Throughout the session, I had cold blasts of air in my ear and we all felt cold blasts
on our hands during this time. I also saw something dark shoot across the dancefloor.
We had asked Charlie if he wanted us to go out by the ladies toilets where they are
frequently seen.  There was a very strong yes to this question so we said that we would go
there.

During the above session, Kevin and Paul were behind the bar and heard footsteps in
the hall/foyer.

On arriving by the toilets, the feeling was very intense and we heard 3 very loud grinds
and established that no-one had made those noises.  The temperature then dropped, and after asking Charlie to drop it some more, it did bit by bit.

We all heard whistles, a womans voice, and music.  It was a bit confusing as the mens
urinals kept flushing!

Out in the hallway that links the ladies and gents toilets, there were
patches of cold spots that seem to disappear as I put my hands throught them.  The
temperature continued to drop by around 2 degrees as we were there.

I then proceeded into the gents toilets which just felt horrible, where Emma noticed
that the door was swinging slightly.  I asked it to swing more which it did.  The more I
asked the door to swing, the more it did.

We then proceeded back to the stage where we started another ouija board session.  Paul
wanted to join us this time so I did another spiritual protection for the group as Paul
had not been with us when we did our initial protection.
During this time, the spirit of a child called Ava aged 8 came through.  She said that her
Mother had been a nurse when the Pavilion was a hospital.

I asked Ava whether she wanted to play a game and she said a definate yes.  I got a
medium sized plastic ball and asked her to throw it back to me.  The ball made very
strange movements which were witnessed by everyone in the hall. The ball went round
in a circle then back up and down again, only to move again!  We tried this around 5
times and the ball continually moved in quite an erratic way.

I must add that the floor has been levelled as Kevin has indoor bowls in the Pavilion.
We were all quite amazed.

The next picture we thought was quite interesting -- glare in the dog's eye or a light
anomoly? Picture taken by Lynze.

At this point we drew the evening to a close. We closed the evening down with our closing
prayer.

The Westgate Pavilion did not disappoint from the minute we walked in.  During the
night we were constantly kept on out toes.  We were thrilled with the activity there and cannot wait to go back.

Again we would like to thank Kevin for allowing us to investigate and being the perfect
host. Also thank you to Paul for his participation during the evening.
